Full-length Zippers are simply not durable enough for military boots, and once a problem occurs, it's difficult to fix, even if you use YKK zippers.
I remember there was an original PLAGF photo of this, a sergeant straining to fix the zipper on a Type 21 boot and it's often used to meme about these boots, as is this case.
They use those metal zippers right as opposed to the more common plastic coil zipper?
