Sure you can; it just means that you played yourself and have nobody else to blame. That they ultimately entrapped themselves doesn't change the fact that the manipulators are far more sane than the manipulated.
Choosing to acquire power through a means from which one cannot control the consequences is inherently irrational.
Being able to quickly change one's attitude is far from rational; at best, it can only be described as the act of a shrewd opportunist.

It's entirely rational; the alternative to a short-term populist powergrab is no power at all. And yes, opportunism is far more sane than delusion.

Anyway, in other soft power news:

China is seeing a surge in a new kind of tech tourism where visitors pay up to $9,000 for curated tours of electric-vehicle factories, robotaxis, and artificial intelligence and robotics companies. The trend is partially triggered by viral videos of China’s dancing humanoid robots and flying cars, creating a sense that the country may be moving faster than the West in key emerging technologies. As China-U.S. tech competition intensifies, these trips are also becoming a means to explore the next investment opportunity and tech breakthrough.

“There’s a fear-of-missing-out dynamic at play: the sense that China’s tech ecosystem has reached a level of sophistication where not seeing it firsthand puts you at an informational disadvantage relative to competitors who have,” Shaoyu Yuan, an international relations adjunct professor at New York University who specializes in China’s soft power, told Rest of World. “If you’re building a startup or making investment decisions, reading about

You can't push a populist movement when you need votes and then blame voters for being radical when you fail.
Using populism to gain power is like making a deal with the devil; everything comes with a price.
It totally would have worked for Modi, if only his troops won in Galwan in 2020 and again in the sky in 2025. It was all undone because PLA and Chinese MIC and Pakistan had a say in the outcome. It was a lot like how the 1962 war broke their dream of being the leader of unaligned countries.

Had Modi won those wars he would have gained enough prestige that he would be able to push through those reforms he wanted, which might have increased India's comprehensive national strength enough that all the current problems like climate change, high fuel prices, lack of foreign investment etc could be dealt with.

You can sort of see why China makes them seethe.

This is the downside of electoral politics: it only focuses on immediate gains. In this system, true rationality becomes delusion, while opportunism becomes the only way forward. In other words, a country's political landscape can be influenced with just a small amount of benefit; no wonder Western countries have been tirelessly peddling their so-called "democratic system" to the world.

Even if India wins these conflicts, it will be futile; radical populism will drag the government into continuing the fight until it suffers a crushing defeat.
Governments that come to power through populism are simply looking for shortcuts; why bother with strenuous reforms when they can easily gain power by making empty promises?

Well yes, but that's somewhat beside the original point.

You probably have seen this fan video making the rounds:

What you probably didn't know is it's got a thumbs up from Butcher himself:

It's a shame that this show went down the grimdark edgy route and spent final season trying to snipe at Trump with all the subtly of a freight train. I can't help but feel if they did go for a more bittersweet 包饺子 ending the show would be better off.

If voluntary reeducation in XJP Thought can morph complete psychos like Soldier Boy and Homelander into great parents, imagine what it can do to Western politicians and billionaires.
