Further reporting of BYD's AI robot program making progress. Looks like they plan for 200k capacity per year by 2028.

Details of BYD's humanoid robot program as of 2026/5 show 7th gen prototype now being tested out called 尧舜禹. It has reached 80% of human efficiency & there are > 100 prototypes in Pingshan & Changsha factories for material handling, line inspection & parts labeling. Payload of 50 kg & 1.5 m/s walking speed. Goal of 20k units inside BYD factories this year and putting them in 4S dealerships after factory expansion. It has worked on this since 2022 with 4000 member core $&D team. 6th gen prototype started testing in 2025. 80% of components including Servo Motor and reducers are designed internally, 40% cheaper than buying from outside. It will giantly expand production at Changsha factory by 2028 for commercial use and reach capacity of 200k/yr. Expecting to service industries, home and companion types.

Long piece from Semianalysis which argues that Unitree is about to take off dramatically, just like DJI did, by providing solutions which are good enough, cheap enough, and fast enough. Notably cites how cost reductions literally create new markets to serve, which is something the overcapacity morons always seem to overlook.

Unitree is a live DJI Strategy case study: own the bottleneck component, bootstrap a willing audience, ride and seed the ecosystem, unlock new markets generation by generation. So far, Unitree has
  • Parlayed actuator scaling into quadrupeds, building the most cost-efficient legged platforms in the market.
  • Scaled the quadruped program into researcher humanoids, with the G1 becoming the dominant research platform for a surprisingly large market.
  • Funded hardware improvements enough to begin real-world deployments, with the threshold being crossed right now.
  • Signaled promising improvement on their next generations to compete on performance with Western humanoids.

it really doesn't have that kind of path forward when Agibot, Ubtech and others like big tech companies all have their own projects. It's a very competitive market.
