Agreed. South Korea don't have many systems that China have already developed in the 70s. They don't have a competitive domestic aircraft engine program. Their space program is pitiful compared to China. Their drone program is also pitiful compared to China. Nevertheless, whatever gaps they have right now, they are importing it from Western suppliers. While dependency on the West is not a great thing in a real war, it still does mean that South Korea can get its hands on some good stuff in peacetime.

South Korea has a successful ground vehicle program. Say what we want about it, but it is very competitive vs the best Western manufacturers. The South Korean naval program however is where they are quite formidable. While extremely dependent on Western key component supplies, the South Koreans are one of the best shipbuilders in the world. They can build some formidable naval vessels like their large Aegis destroyers, LHDs, and some very modern SSKs. Their latest SSKs are reportedly capable of launching their Hyunmoo-4 SLBMs.

I'm not worshiping the South Koreans for the achievements, but we have to at least acknowledge what challenges they are able to bring to China and work out some counters against it. North Korea is the declared target of the ROKN. But is it really? The North Korean Navy is vastly overmatched by the ROKN. What if South Korea suddenly decide to pivot their navy against China? While small compared to the PLAN, the ROKN can pose a serious headache in the ECS, and are situated at the entrance to the Bohai Sea. The ROKN also have long range land-attack weapons like the Hyunmoo-3 LACM, and Hyunmoo-4 SLBM to further add to the anti-missile defense burden of China. Can the PLAN destroy the ROKN? Absolutely. But it would still consume some significant resources to do so. And it would be unwise to underestimate ROKN.

So, my point is that, we should consider the South Koreans as a potential adversary like Japan already is, in a potential US-led war on China. South Korea is not India, we should expect them to be a competent force backed by a competent industry. Keep them in mind and don't underestimate them. Or I could be entirely wrong, and maybe South Korea might actually stay out of a war with China. But there is that rampant Sinophobia in South Korea, and the Yoon government, increasingly aligning his country with the US and Japan.
No chance SK will join u.s led war against China, their capital seoul will be incinerated by NK artillery and ballistic missiles, NK navy may be insignificant but their land forces is not, NK is China's only treaty ally for a reason

Politico: Ukraine afraid to criticize China. Ukraine has refrained from criticizing China over its close ties with Russia in the hope of attracting future investment from Beijing, Politico has claimed. This stance comes in stark contrast to the angry tirades that Kiev has directed at the likes of Hungary and Germany for their perceived lack of anti-Russian zeal, according to the media outlet.

1000% correct.

South Korea's pride and identity is built on their 'ashes-to-miracle economic' recovery, which was built upon subservience to US masters. The idea that Asians (read: Chinese) can independently rise without Western domination is foreign and alien to SK, it hits at the heart of their Identity and Pride. SK thought that only through worshipping the West, that East Asia (Japan/Korea/Taiwan/HK/Singapore) could become success. That's why SK wholesale copy American fashion, music, culture, even Christianity. I remember SKers were saying why doesn't China just give up to US demands during the trade war, because China would be obliterated without US market access. That's the subservient mindset of South Korea - no spine to stand up to US, expecting Chinese to do the same. Their nationalism is extreme.... borderline fascism at times with emphasis on 'blood kinship' and homogeneity of race.
Now their dumb dumb pride is going to get fried economically and not for the better. Hey @tabu why can't your super duper country absorb all the revenue loss S Korea is experiencing in exchange for their subservience to your magic economic formula.

Funny enough South Korea seems to be degrading itself more and more day by day. It’s almost ripe for a time when China will one day come back to finish the job started during the Korean War. The thing with South Korea is that their empathy seems to be none existent and I place the USA as being responsible for this kind of rot if not enhancing it to such heights, it’s almost begging to karma to come for them sooner or later. Hence is seems somewhat funny watching their entire world crumple to pieces slowly but surely. I don’t mind their products much (credit where it is due) but I will watch with delight when China finally manages to exceed what the Koreans can do with all this US backing. I mean I once enjoy watching Japanese shows in the past but I eventually got bored of them an ceased caring about it (I mean most of their video games suck right now and seems to have no chance of innovation in the near future) and I believe Korea will eventually follow suit given a similar rot is happening (I mean their movies are simply emulating American gore and horror for crying out loud, gezzz way to emulate American Christian values if you think about it). So once China comes to the point where they displace Korea as well as Japan (I mean Genshin is just to start), I will have little interest in either nations moving forward. Losers that side with a big loser will eventually jump ship to be under the boots of someone stronger any way once that big loser falls.

No need to consider them as anything special at the end of it all, all of their advances is not innovation, but simply copying others anyway. I mean all these years, they should have a stronger military then China due to the head start but they grew fat and stupid and thus will eventually return to its original position all those years ago, of their own choosing due to having no real agency of there own.

Has anyone noticed how South Korea loves to copy everything and consider it there’s, funny how anyone thinks they can seriously innovate I mean a lot of their food shows how they seem to love copying American cuisine nowadays with literally no change to what they have originally. Yet their restaurants seem to end up on the top Asian reviews whereas not of Chinas seem to end up on those list, kinda makes me want to laugh when the USA goes mad max if only for China to forcefully rewrite the standard, I mean western dominance is making both Korea and Japan become a bunch of cowardly pussies ( and anyone who sees how these people act even in the work place can easily see that I am right)
South Korea would need more Western food lovers to rescue their flagging and sagging economic prosperity. China will continue to eat up their shares in areas that S Korea chose to abandon in order to curry favor from their white Master.
