For the state of the union speech, Biden only briefly talk about China being more a economic competitor rather than some super hawkish tirade.
They want that meeting with China, it can't be more obvious. They want China's help on something, most likely for help with that economic crisis on the horizon or at least for China to not kick US while they're down. But instead of doing, as Xi would put it "create the right conditions" they have to keep the illusion that they are still speaking from a position of strength. That's why FMA wasn't impressed and didn't formally extend the invite to Blinken all this time.

Problem is even if Whitehouse want to show some good will gesture their political system means the GOP will always get in their way and call them weak on China and Beijing Biden and so on. They've propagandized their own population into a corner. By keep saying "the free people of NATO have to help Ukraine win, or the dark lord Putin will cover the lands in a second darkness" and "we have to beat China or it will be the jackboot of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics on the face of humanity forever" you leave yourself with no option to backdown.

Are they going to accept rmb for buying US treasuries? Is $US the only way you pay for US treasuries?
Odds are, China doesn't want to buy US Treasury Bonds anymore. Especially when the US wants to default its debt to China.

Sure this is dated but it's still relevant today, if you don't believe me feel free to see the line-up on US Capitol Hill now.
Japan is failing to master many of the newest foundational technologies of the time and is mostly living off of old Imperial and Cold War era achievements.
Japan can make if it really wants to, the problem is that somehow Tokyo lacks the will to burn that kind of money.

You've Kevin McCarthy do the hardline act. If Biden has to outdo McCarthy on the hardline stuff, he'd need to "ask for the Football".

China can’t fill a hole that big. The whole global economy can’t fill a hole that big. Ten whole global economies can’t fill a hole that big.

2nd biggest. And also not how it works. You need a really big difference in economy size to buy out the other guy completely.

25 trillion vs 11 trillion is not that great of a difference, it's proportionally similar to the difference between India and Germany. Just try and imagine India buying out all of the german political establishment through corruption. That would be impossible.
Hang on... India's nominal GDP was 2.66 trillions in 2022, ranked 6th. Where's the 3rd and 11 trillions from?

I can't believe I used to listen to Zeihan's videos. He's soft-spoken and fooled me into thinking he knew what he was talking about. I thought his videos on the food production crisis were interesting, but ever since he started talking about how China, Russia, and the entire world collapse, but somehow America survives, and how everything would be fine even if the entire earth except that part were to be erased, It is illogical and biased.

If soft spoken is the hallmark of sophisticated analysis then we’d all be listening to Mr. Rogers for geopolitical advice wouldn’t we?

I know but there's a difference between China not doing anything during a financial crisis vs China announcing just as poop hit the fan that China will no longer accept USD as payment for the duration of the crisis.

That’s the difference between dying by headshot or dying by drinking poison. You are gonna die either way.

Yes, much more focussed on Russia/Ukraine, what he said about China was about as short and anodyne as it could be given the recent balloon shenanigans. He got a bit ranty about "what other world leader would want to change places with Xi Jinping" though, I immediately thought "Vladimir Putin".

I think Biden is very sneaky though, he is prob preparing something against China.
