It's actually because they ran out of ducks in Beijing for roasted ducks okay.
CCP tried to be coy about this and invited that other guy to Langfang instead but seems Whitehouse can't take the hint and keep clamouring to send all these people to Beijing. So what can they do other than unleash the balloons?

If only the American were okay with those big baozi in Tianjing instead of insisting on roasted duck this could've all been avoided.

Crisis mode describes perfectly a moribund hegemon whose state of the art 5th gen fighter's only action after nearly 4 decades from its drawing board back in 1985 is that of shooting at a static, defenceless Chinese balloon...

For the current US regime, anything China does is a threat: thus a cost-effective way for testing some aspects of the aerodynamics of hypersonic vehicles becomes a cheap way to deliver them, never mind how can you achieve hypersonic speed by just dropping them. Furthermore, a wayward meteorological research balloon becomes an instrument of terror for spreading agents of biological warfare - only the imagination is the limit.

Unfortunately for the US, there are less than 6 million Chinese Americans, while there are more than 1.4 billion Chinese in China.

Today's Japan is a completely different animal from the 1970s and 80s. Japan can't do much nowadays. Even its auto industry is being eclipsed by China's. As a result, it has no choice but to team up with the US like a good lapdog teaming up with its master.

I haven't followed the Western MSM for a few years. But any article with a female Chinese diaspora reporter's picture there can be safely ignored anyway.
