As manufacturers switch their R&D funds to electric vehicles, there will increasingly be prospective ICE developments "left on the table" as simply uneconomic to pursue. The internal combustion engine has come a long, long way over the last century, and one wonders what next several decades could've brought if not for the EV revolution.
