I hope most European don't actually think that the acknowledgement (or the lack of it) of their leader is what give the Communist party its legitimacy to rule, or their leaders are automictically seen as trustworthy and upstanding actors on the world. This is beyond delusion of grandeur and an absurdly early 2000s mindset.

That's the last time a true Canadian leader stood up for its own sovereignty and dignity as a country. Trudeau Jr. is a massive flaming dissappointment.
If anything, the one on one visit of such "leaders" such as Scholz or Macron that are blatant pawns of other, larger powers, is discrediting and insulting to Xi. It implies there is equality between China and failed states that don't even have their own foreign policy.
