Unless I'm seriously underestimating the stupidity of the entire Japanese leadership, Japan would not directly intervene as well. The Japanese military top brass, and the National Diet should attempt to stop the LDP's drive to go to war with China. Nevertheless, I could still see Japan playing a similar role like Poland in the Russo-Ukraine conflict. Japan could accept the DPP escapees and Taiwanese refugees. Japan could act as a proxy for the US to attempt to provide military aid shipments to Taiwan. But doing so by sea compared to a land border is a whole different type of challenge. Very doubtful that it could be done, but I'm sure that the US and Japan will try. Japan could throw all kinds of sanctions and boycotts on China. But the economic costs will be disastrous for Japan too.
You can't think about the Japanese mental state with normal logic.
Japanese politicians are in fact hereditary aristocrats, they lack compassion for the people at the bottom.Since the LDP has strengthened its power to appoint and remove personnel, those civil servants have become more dependent on the ruling party.

Recently, a senior leader of Japan's police was forced to resign. He is very good at pleasing Shinzo Abe and the LDP regime. This senior leader of the police has personally issued instructions on many occasions, asking the police to act in favor of the LDP. As a result, Abe was assassinated for this excessive flattery:The local police had warned that they lacked the ability to defend dignitaries, and other politicians had abandoned their propaganda activities in the area, but Shinzo Abe was not prevented from doing so.

Therefore, under such circumstances, it is unrealistic to expect the congress and the military to oppose the war. They will prioritize their personal political future. In order to improve its political status, the JSDF is very likely to ask to participate in the war.Casualties? That's not what those who don't have to go to the front need to care about, and the Americans will finish things for them.

From historical experience, as long as the Japanese have a little advantage, they will not consider the gap in strength at all. They took the initiative to attack without knowing the strength of their opponents many times.

One army general, two air force generals, and one navy general.
They bluntly stated that Taiwan is the most important area for Japan's security(台湾は日本にとって安全保障上の最重要地域である).
Although they have retired, they can also show JSDF's political attitude to a certain extent.
Unfortunately, a number of retired JDSF generals have shown militaristic tendencies and contempt for the PLA.
Those who only care about whether their status will rise will not care about the risks brought to Japan by failure.

this is 100% correct. the more you understand Japanese, the more you realize that they might write Chinese characters but their thinking is the opposite of Chinese.

They have been an imperialist power since feudal times. But even in feudal times Chinese had concept of 天命 where an evil emperor was destined to be overthrown, but Japanese believed emperor is 现御神 - divinity on earth.

UK government wins pension fund legal challenge over change to RPI

Ten Millions of pensioners will see as much as 20 percent wiped off their retirement income after a court ruling delivered a bitter blow to gold-plated company schemes.

Pension scheme trustees on September 1 lost a High Court battle to protect millions of their members from a change to inflation calculations that will leave them worse off in retirement. The legal challenge centres around the Government’s move to scrap the Retail Price Index (RPI) and increase salary-linked pensions every year in line with a less generous measure of inflation instead. Experts warned it was another “unnecessary blow” to pensioners facing rocketing prices and a cost of living crisis. Around 10.5 million people in the UK have private sector “defined benefit” pensions, the majority of which are linked to RPI.

However, the UK Statistics Authority has said that RPI, which is also used to push up rail fares and student loan interest rates, is “flawed” and should be replaced from 2030 with CPIH, a variant on the Consumer Prices Index which includes homeowner costs. But the CPIH measure is typically at least one percentage point lower, meaning those with RPI-linked pensions now stand to miss out on tens of thousands of pounds over the course of retirement.

The ruling means around £100 billion of pension fund money will be lost to the Treasury because it is invested in Government bonds that pay out in line with RPI. Pension schemes trustees at BT, Marks and Spencer and Ford launched the judicial review, arguing that the change was unlawful, but did not reveal if they intended to appeal the judgment.

RPI inflation, which has been used as an official measure of inflation in the UK since 1956, currently stands at 12.3pc and CPIH at 8.8pc, according to the Office for National Statistics.Pension expert Jos Vermeulen, of fund shop Insight Investment, said that the gap highlighted the magnitude of how much pensioners will miss out on as a result of the ruling.

He said there had been “significant concerns” about the move, adding: “It was of no surprise that three UK defined benefit pension funds felt they had no choice but to challenge the government’s decision. “With inflation surging many pensioners are already struggling and RPI reform represents an additional and entirely unnecessary blow.”

Experts have estimated that some retirees will be as much as 20pc worse off, and the average pensioners will lose between 10pc and 15pc. The High Court estimated that the switch in inflation measures will reduce pensioners lifetime income by between 4pc and 9pc, with women suffering greater reductions.

The Government had considered bringing the switch forward to 2025 but former Chancellor Rishi Sunak agreed that no changes will be made until 2030. The state pension and public sector schemes have already been severed from the RPI measure. Estimates at the time were that the 2015 reforms to public sector pensions, including abandoning RPI, would save around £400bn over 50 years.

The majority of company pension schemes that do still pay inflation-linked pensions also have annual increases capped at 5pc. It comes as the state pensioners and members of public sector schemes are expected to see their incomes rise by at least 10pc next Spring as the Government guarantees to protect their pensions from rising prices.

A spokesperson for the pension schemes said: "This decision will leave millions of pensioners in defined benefit schemes with RPI-linked benefits poorer through no fault of their own and facing substantial decreases in their year-on-year income. Women will be particularly impacted since they live longer and retire earlier.

"We are disappointed that the UKSA has been allowed to align the RPI with CPIH from 2030 without proper consultation and consideration of the impact such a decision will have."The pension schemes are said to be considering seeking a permission to appeal the judgment.

20% pension cut. 80% price hike. Lmao. So the great culling begins.

Dirty little bit@he’s still want to play even when things are falling apart. Clearly needs to have a situation where actual American soldiers to perish in large numbers for the USA to really start questioning there collective brain cells about the dangers of war. Not like in Ukraine where the Ukrainians are proud to die for democracy to the last Ukrainian because if they did have an ounce of respect for their own lives, Zelensky would be gone by now, especially after this latest stuff up with his gay fat friend Boris. I wonder how many Ukrainians need to die for the collective nation to question if it is worth it being Americas bit@h

On Sept 2, Gazprom completely turned off Nord Stream 1 for reasons of "technical maintenance". It did not say when it will reopen.
