Expect China to apply more economic pressure on australia, so by the time these subs are operational, australia economy will be a shell it once was
for all the hype of these anglo alliances, they wouldn't or even unwilling to defend each other economically, in fact the us openly profited from australian exports banned by China

This is true. China is not the US which will enrich its enemies.

Anyone else gets the feeling that this program will economically drain Australian Defence budget?

It is a multi decade confrontation so time is not an issue. See the overall strategy, same thing happening with SK and JP: Nukes AND alliance is how you bridge the China problem.
I think China is not afraid of cold war, in fact i have a sneaky feeling that China is actively baiting the us for an arms race
With excessive money printing and the resulted inflation, ongoing coronavirus crisis, dilapitated infrastructure, the us can't afford an arms race this time around
China has kept its defense spending at around 1.3% of gdp compare to america 3.4% so it still has lot of room to grow combined to the fact that China now can produce most of military hardware locally thus keeping the cost lower
So theoretically China can bankrupt the us soviet union style

Can Australia even afford $90bn for subs after China curbstomps its economy?

This is a shockingly shit deal Biden has done, building a meaningless alliance of its existing vassals at the expense of massively alienating the EU at the precise time it seem to actually be making some headway in using its EU assets to create some distance between China and the EU with the CAI deal and Lithuanian drama.

Maybe Biden is indeed in Beijing’s pocket like Trump supports have been claiming all along!

The main drivers of the deal are Australia and America. Britain is just tagging along hoping to bag some sub contracts and also because America whistled for it.

If and when it actually comes time to throw down, I’m sure their Darlings and carrier will break down on the way to the action and have to go home for repairs.

You aren't wrong. China has domestic production for its weapons so it is most appropriate to use China's GDP PPP figures for comparing it with the US in regards to defence spending

By now, there should be a 4 trillion gap in favour of China

Some nations attach themselves way more importance than they have. What kind of deterrence can Australia be against China? China literally adds an ADF to the PLA every two years.
