It was China's turn to "take a bow" for the sake of US hegemony. Last year Hong Kong was supposed to be Tiananmen 2.0 and COVID was supposed to internal collapse China, and by now the "great harvesting" would have already been underway... Now you know why Pompeo is huffing and puffing... trying to sell "CLEAN" networks/apps to the world...

Initially I was worried about Obama's "pivot to Asia" signifying a focused anti-China policy.

China managed to stay stealthy while the US was occupied by Iraq and other Middle East wars.

China managed to get another 4 years of valuable time under Trump who turned out to be a mercantilist rather than a military China hawk.

I think the next 4 years should also be safe for development due to burgeoning US debt and identity/race politics. China keeps getting lucky.

Every year without military conflict is a good year. Once the dollar falls, Taiwan and other disobedient neighbors should just surrender.

I guess now is it time for the US hegemony to finally bow out of the stage given that the last few actions that the USA has taken has repeatedly blown up in there faces. Blow up so hard that there economy is only held up the the printing of there money, which may end either when the rates go negative, or when the inflation reaches level that are unbearable to the general public (very soon that is) or simply if the printing machines break down for over use. Either way Pompeo is screwing things up to the point where trying to repair the damage is impossible

After Yen appreciation, their GDP/capita in USD terms increased 4 fold in the span of 15 years.

The difference this time is that the appreciation will be the US screwing up and China won't lose export competitiveness because other currencies appreciate as well.

In 1985 Western Nations forced a brutal appreciation on the Japanese Yen. The Yen-value in USD terms went from 0.4/100 in 1985 to 1.3/100 in 2012! Japan had to absorve a shocking 220% appreciation of their currency vs the USD. For 25 years Western & Asian competitors forced Japan to accept the appreciation of its currency. While everybody else pursued exclusively national interests, Japan bowed for the sake of global harmony. Would the USA, UK or Germany tolerate a concerted appreciation of their currency by 200% ?
The rapid depreciation of the yen will cause their buying power to crumble quickly.

Used to have option to pay server usage in WeChat now cannot... this EO by Trump was a huge geopolitical move to prevent international WeChat Pay adoption and the threat to the US dollar by digital yuan

A large part of the US fight on 5G is really about defending the US dollar hegemony. In the future when large parts of the world are using Chinese apps on Chinese phones running across Chinese networks or network/internet hardware made by China with Chinese control of the entire stack, and when all payments are done digitally on a smartphone, with BRI and Digital Yuan blockchain adoption, its goodbye to the US dollar dominance.

Very much behind this initiative. It is a curse that Chinese tradition designates over-ordering food and leaving the dinner table with an insane amount of leftovers as a way to honor your guest. Everyone should find virtue in clearing their plates so that Chinese food production is fully-utilized to feed the population and food imports are kept to a minimum. Unfortunately, I don't see any legal or policy specifics to achieve the initiative.

I don't know what is wrong with mainland Chinese seem like they forgot their own tradition When I was a child I was always told to finish the last grain on the plate and I didn't I will be lectured how hard it is to grow rice and I am being inconsiderate to waste the sweat and hard work of farmer toiling on the field to grow rice

The benefits of intermittent fasting and undereating are multifaceted and many fold.... plenty of research proves it... We genetically didn't evolve to eat three full meals a day.

Also, food security can be solved in large part if people turned vegan or if the priority shifted from meats to plant based diet. From a physics standpoint of view, 2nd law of thermodynamics, entropy and all that, it makes perfect sense. Basically animals are on the top of the food pyramid.. the lower the food pyramid the more efficent and less wasteful, the higher up the food pyramid the much more wasteful... instead of eating luxury steak how about drinking juiced up green barley instead? Much more healthy and much more ecological and easier on the planet.
