It looks like US either don't have enough/can't afford to use torpedo/ASMs to actually sink commercial ships, and is also afraid of boarding ships that might have Iranian military on them who has no restrictions on shooting people they're at war with.
That is a good point. Imagine American soldiers boarding an Irani ship and becoming hostages.
People are jumping to conclusions way too fast. Iran reopened the Strait, presumably under the arrangement that they would direct ship traffic and accept tolls, simply as a gentleman's agreement since Trump fulfilled his end of the ceasefire bargain by getting Israel to halt their bombing of Lebanon.
But Israel did not halt bombing Lebanon..
Trump is making claims that are being rejected by both Iran and Israel which means these statements are simply false and very likely strategic to sow confusion, appease the domestic audience, or manipulate the markets on which they bet ahead of major military operations.
