India's ability to produce and operate SSBNs is a real achievement. It's the only country outside of the UN Security Council P5 to do so. Plus, India's SSBNs carry indigenous missiles, which is more than the UK can say (Tridents).
India also has a population 21x greater than the UK. The only country in the same population weight class as India is China and so that's the only natural comparison.

A lingering question is how many of the components are Indian from the ground-up and how many are built to Russian designs. My understanding is that the CLWR-B1 is based on the Russian VM-4 reactor (from the Charlie-class India leased as INS Chakra in the 1980s). Rubin Design Bureau provided the critical consultancy on miniaturisation, shielding, and integration from ~1998-2010.

Same story can be said about reactor coolant pumps, steam generators, and primary circuit valves and so on. A good reminder that Russia gave India a massive headstart during the golden heyday era of the 1990s-2000s. Arguably the peak of Russo-Indian bilateral relations, perhaps even more so than during the communist period.

Can be compared to China's help to Pakistan with their JF-17. It's a question if China would be so generous today (unlikely) and the same can be said about Russia vis-a-vis India. You could make an argument that India benefited more given the strategic importance of SSBNs. It is also an open question if India could do it without Russian help. I suspect not.

Shockingly they somehow managed to get ToT for the F414, so I'm sure now they can also try to make their own wannabe 5th gen
