To be fair, the senator did say that he "hopes" other countries will follow suit. He didn't actually demand that the U.S. enact a global ban, which is utter rubbish and would be non-enforceable to begin with. Not to mention that all countries other than America's closest vassals (i.e. Japan) would just ignore their demands outright even if they tried.

It's pretty much a shot at Canada and Mexico for USMCA. EU doesn't care what some random senator says and has their own needs/demands with China on EVs. The rest of South America will feign deference to the U.S. but continue to buy whatever they want from China.
