Getting the band back together...
All these "strategic military alignment upgrading" between different countries of the western imperialist project are nothingburgers because as we have seen lately, when push comes to shove and each one of them may face real potential pain, none of them have the balls to step up and do anything. It's just bluster to look tough and united when they are as fractured and weak as ever.

I think China manufactures ~1.2TW annually. I don't think Elon's planned capacity is particularly detrimental to China, although it does remove some dependence on Chinese solar, which maybe could be relevant in the future. But if anything, increasing American production does one of two things: either American demand for precursor materials goes up (buys from China), or America buys all the equipment necessary to build the precursor manufacturer chain. The first one is probably what happens, because the second one will take too long (and I think at some point the supply chain equipment will hit export controls).

It's more like total polysilicon capacity for 1.2-1.4 TW of solar panels annually, but production is only 0.4-0.5 TW.

If all that capacity is activated, that would be about 0.8-1 TW of additional solar pabels.
