PLA Strategy in a Taiwan Contingency

Even for the DPP, that's outrageous

If armed reunification kicks off, I hope the PLA can catch this disgusting traitor and throw him in jail before he can run away to Japan or the US

Why waste all that food to feed him for the rest of his life when a trial and single bullet is all that is needed?

The timing of this unprecedentedly provocative speech is also relevant in China’s decisions when forming its response.

Note that is speech was given as the US is in full swing stripping Asia of everything not nailed down to full send to the ME in preparation for amphibious ground invasion. Once those boots hits the ground that’s over forever for TI as the US will be locked into another 10 year extension of its ME forever war that the west has been fighting on and off since the crusades. If given 10 more years of peaceful development, a future war between China and America will be fought 100miles off the U.S. coast instead of China’s.

This is a Hail Mary by Lai’s handlers in the US to try to goad a massive overreaction from China that’s short of full blown AR to try to force Trump to reverse his APAC forces drawdown and maybe the whole ground invasion of Iran insanity.

Beijing will easily see through this, so don’t be surprised if this is downplayed by China for now.

All the outrage is misplaced. In the event of any hot conflict, Lai will be unceremoniously blown to bits by the initial salvo along with his staff. Not because of anything he said, or didn't say, but because he is the current occupant of the office of president/commander-in-chief, and so his death will generate useful friction in the chain of command.

It's not personal. Well I suppose some might view it personally, but that has no bearing on operational realities. Nor should it.

The East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere was conceived decades after Japan's annexation of Taiwan. The Japanese committed numerous atrocities, including the massacre of entire towns and villages and carried out genocide against the indigenous peoples. On other hand, KMT repression and land reform (often violent) was necessary for industrialization and modernization, just as it has been in South Korea and China. Lai's statements expose just how deeply ignorant of history he actually is.

Despite losing WWII, Japan has achieved the Co-Prosperity sphere from a certain POV by leveraging soft power.

They already did achieve Greater East Asia Co-pronsperity Sphere. Maybe they want military as well as cultural victory.

With the US bog down in their biggest conflict since the Gulf war.
There is something seriously wrong in the brain of that useful idiot and is safe to say that the US doesn't have friends only liabilities all over the world.

Respectfully, this isn't remotely surprising at all. If anything it's the DPP/Separtists being honest for the first time in 30 years.

The entire "Taiwanese Independence" identity was created by Lee Teng-hui, who grew up in Japanese-occupied Taiwan. As a politician he exploited anti-communist sentiments to use "China" as a proxy for criticizing Jiang Jieshi (Chang-Kai Shek).

What's especially import about Teng-hui is went to his grave an Imperial Japanese apologist. It was also under Teng-hui's leadership that Taiwan essentially weebified as a culture in the 90s. His last public interview was with a Japanese magazine claiming Taiwan's people were all ethnic Japanese.

This slipped under the radar because the KMT was the incumbent party under Ma Ying-jeou, who had abysmal approval ratings from dealing with residual 2008 Financial Crisis problems, combined with a string of party scandals under his watch.

Thing is, far as I could tell Lee Teng-hui's parents are from Fujian. He's also avoided talking about the Japanese genocide of Indigenous Taiwanese and Dutch-Formosans. Which, from my view, has some pretty clear implications for a Japanese apologies. At least Korea's Park Chung-hee had the balls to be honest about it.
