What is likely is Rubio is confined to the US embassy and the site of the meeting as curtesy. Technically US embassy is US territory and transit to that may not be barred. As for the meeting, he is afterall representative of the US government. Attendence to State banquet and similar hospitality events of course is denied to persona non grata such as him.
Everytime there is a meeting between the US and China, US always puts sanctions on China or does something (Maduro kidnapping, Iran war) to get leverage over China during discussions. Don’t see any point to meeting with the US. Waste of time considering every agreement will be broken within 2 weeks by the US.
See what's happening here is Trump though the blockage of oil coming out of the gulf would cripple China so China would be forced to do something about it. Trump's team is probably very surprised that Xi is doing his do nothing win strategy in this instance because again, they don't know shit about China.
I think NATO is willing to chip in, but America's allies are primarily followers, not leaders. If they are to participate, the US needs to lead the way. I mean, from the Europeans' perspective, they need the strait to open but they don't have enough leverage over the US, so they can only pressure Iran. However, without overwhelming American support, they really can't do much either.
If Trump is willing to commit to a ground invasion, at least to occupy the coastal areas, then the Europeans will probably be willing to at least provide air and naval support.
What happened to the almighty US military they advertised as the bestest and most strongest military that can destroy all that it purveys? They got struck by Iran, they gave excuses and now they are begging for help. This guy Trump is no good for the US, he's completely shattering the mystic of the country and turning it into a laughing stock.
He wants to invade Greenland though. Seems like future of NATO is bleak regardless of which path they take.
Regarding all the recent fuss over AI videos being used to convince people that up is down and left is right, it is quite terrifying to imagine the day when AI has so improved that we will no longer see visual artifacts or missing frames to clue us in on fabrication and manipulation. We will have to fall back on inductive reasoning instead of believing any "evidence" put before us. We will not even be able to trust AI to judge potential AI videos for us as they can be designed to lie to the public (and normal paying users) while only giving actual assessments to the powerful institutions, elites, and rulers of society.
