So, Iran is bearing witness to who its allies (and enemies) truly are, after all these decades.
I think the US will attempt to truly end Iran this time, because doing otherwise after having multiple mask off moments would make future negotiations worthless. If the present Iranian leadership survives, they won't forget the US's deception and its attacking during negotiations. So they will race for the bomb and Russian/Chinese weapons and the controlled opposition the US has in the country will be gradually rooted out and purged.
Hence, it really is an all-in moment for the US, so I'm not surprised to see talks of ground troops. The question is, though, can Trump really afford to take the hit for the mid-terms when the optics, which are already against the US (dishonorable conduct, etc.), will surely get worse the longer the war drags on? Or will the Republicans use it as an opportunity to maybe cancel elections?
