We've seen elsewhere the ability of far less sophisticated missiles to slip past far more capable air defense systems. Point is, just because the US Military isn't a beacon of morality, doesn't mean that their missiles are "barely better than shahed type drones", as that other person claimed. Tomahawk, JASSM and LRASM among others are sufficiently threatening systems that all the large global players seek means to reliably counter them and their deployment against their forces in a potential conflict.
In short, we shouldn't fall into blind cheerleading and be dismissive. It's the same mentality that makes NAFOids so obnoxious with their terribly bad takes on any given Chinese or Russian origin weapon system.
Over it's service, Tomahawk has proven to be arguably one of the best systems the Americans ever adopted and a template for other naval forces and their VLS launched land attack cruise missiles.
Its not about blind cheerleading. Its about looking at the basic physics of each system and seeing for what it is.
Just cause US has used tomahawks since 1990s and got a lot of fame, doesn't mean its some mythically good missile that peer countries will be afraid of.
Tomahawk is similar to Russian kalibr missiles which have been shotdown very easily and frequently by Ukraine, which shows you how easy for a country with proper AD will be able to shootdown tomahawks.
The original premise of the post was, how much should China and Russia cheerlead the fact that US is wasting a lot of tomahawks.
My point is, they are not afraid of tomahawks, cause they are actually worse technology than shahed drones.
Technologically speaking, shahed drones are a massive leap forward in technology. Because they are cheap, still extremely long range and highly accurate and ground hugging.
These are exactly the characteristics of a tomahawk except the cost.
So you get all the benefits of a tomahawk without the million dollar cost. Thats a huge innovation.
We are long past the times when tomahawk was a very important weapons platform.
I would argue no, they no longer are that important, cause shaheds are better in every way.
