Prof. Jiang has some kooky beliefs on some topics, & this is by no means a wholesale endorsement of his views, but in this video he brings up an interesting dimension of the war that I haven't seen discussed in detail elsewhere - water.
West Asia's geography makes it a naturally highly water-stressed environment, & just about everyone in the region consumes way more water than nature is able to replenish. The GCC countries are all massively over 100% water stress levels - consuming way more water than their natural environment replenishes. Israel is at about 80-90% water stress level, where as Iran is in the mid-70s percentage water stress, not much better than Israel. Therefore, destroying water infrastructure is a form of mass destruction of the population.
This actually gives me some small sense of relief, because this - to some limited degree - balances out the nuclear asymmetry in the region. If Israel/the US decides to take advantage of their regional nuclear monopoly & nuke Iran, the latter is not completely without leverage. Iran can throw everything they have at Israel's water infrastructure to ensure its total destruction. It's not as damaging as a nuke, but it's still a means of mass damage.
