There is essentially ZERO way to hide a loss of a carrier in the long term. People, relatives and the media would ask questions if a carrier doesn't return home or is nowhere to be seen anymore, after some time.

There are still important things that Iran still haven't learn and adapt. This is a very successful decapitation strike by the US. Iran is the only country in recent times where leaders still acted very chill and live in a normal life after work.

You cannot decapitate an hydra, these people are not like the Arab militaries that killing a commander or the head of state collapse the entire institution, the Iranian military can operate decentralized and that was demonstrated in the 12 day war were Israel killed some of the top brass in the Iranian military and didn't have any effect, they keep plummeting Tel Aviv.

The US would have zero problems with reporting a carrier sunk.
Every single one of the fuckers in power is salivating for another 9/11 opportunity.

9/11 was the perfect time for far away wars, especially against such weak powers like Afghanistan and Iraq. In addition, losing military and civilian infrastructure on home turf is an acceptable reason to want to "go to the bad guys" and stop them from doing it again.

Losing your main force projector to a massive country like Iran though, especially at a time like this, with multiple large-scale wars going on and increasingly hostile, highly industrialized and self-sufficient enemies like China and Russia would be the opposite. Though I do agree that there are plenty of idiots who still think the U.S. is top dog and that Russia and China are still stuck in the 90s and wouldn't be a problem.

With Iran's current intelligence and reconnaissance capabilites, I do agree that only four missiles sinking a carrier may be a bit far-fetched. But perhaps, with a little help from a friend...
