I always how they use reckless and aggressive 200 times to describe the PLA in these types of articles.
It's like China is here... Pacific Ocean is here... America is here
Yet who can answer why "Allied" airplanes are flying by China all the time? Maybe Australia is next to China? Canada? No?
Float a fully armed US carrier or Destroyer operating closer to Beijing than Washington DC is just "Freedom of Navigation".

This year's Work Conference on Taiwan Affairs seems to have a "softened" language, with phases like

it is necessary to uphold the concept of “we are one family across the Strait” (“两岸一家亲”), ensure smooth and more convenient cross-Strait travel and exchanges, expand nongovernmental and grassroots exchanges, support Taiwan residents, especially young people, in studying, working, and living on the mainland, promote the joint carrying forward of Chinese culture, and foster closer people-to-people bonds between compatriots on both sides of the Strait.

And change from last year's "unswervingly advance the great cause of the reunification of the motherland" to "unswervingly promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and advance the great cause of the reunification of the motherland."

Seems like we are due for a Zheng Liwen visit.

The Taiwan Work Conference (对台工作会议) was held in Beijing from February 9 to 10, 2026. Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended and delivered a speech. He said that work related to Taiwan should be guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important statements on Taiwan-related work and the Party’s overall policy framework for resolving the Taiwan question in the new era, and carry out Taiwan-related work with a high sense of responsibility and mission. He stressed the need to firmly hold the initiative and leading role in cross-Strait relations, and to unswervingly promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and advance the cause of national reunification.

Wang Huning said it is necessary to uphold the one-China principle and the “1992 Consensus,” unite Taiwan compatriots, firmly support patriotic pro-reunification forces on the island, resolutely strike against separatist forces advocating “Taiwan independence” and oppose interference by external forces, and safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. He said it is necessary to uphold the concept of “we are one family across the Strait” (“两岸一家亲”), ensure smooth and more convenient cross-Strait travel and exchanges, expand nongovernmental and grassroots exchanges, support Taiwan residents, especially young people, in studying, working, and living on the mainland, promote the joint carrying forward of Chinese culture, and foster closer people-to-people bonds between compatriots on both sides of the Strait. He also said it is necessary to support the development of Taiwan-funded businesses on the mainland, improve policies and measures that benefit Taiwan compatriots and Taiwan enterprises, deepen integrated cross-Strait development, and enable compatriots on both sides of the Strait to share the opportunities and outcomes of Chinese modernization.

Europe having second thoughts about engaging with Taiwan, mostly new governments dealing with the fallout from the old.

TAIPEI -- European countries that forged closer bonds with Taiwan in recent years face a fresh challenge as new governments struggle to balance those ties with a desire to do business with China, while an unpredictable U.S. president shakes up the world order. The government of Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis, who took office in December, has signaled interest in improving relations with Beijing, with national security adviser Hynek Kmonicek telling local media last month that it would be "nonsensical" to give up on the Chinese market. Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene, who took office in September, told a local news outlet last week that it was a "mistake" to allow the opening of a "Taiwanese Representative Office" in Vilnius in 2021.

Another change of heart appears to have occurred in Bratislava. Slovakia's incumbent government, which took office in late 2023, effectively

Maybe EU should do less performance arts.

China doesn't expect total severance of ties from Taiwan, countries freely trade with Taiwan, but you open these offices, meet with officials, do annoying crap. Does it actually materially help Taiwan? No. Does it materially help the EU countries? No. So you are just doing to "stick it to China", so you know, all they want to do is stick it back to you 10X harder.
