The European Commission on Wednesday strongly condemned a U.S. decision to impose travel restrictions on five European individuals, including former European Commissioner Thierry Breton, warning it would act "swiftly and decisively" to defend the bloc's regulatory autonomy if needed.

"Freedom of expression is a fundamental right in Europe and a shared core value with the United States across the democratic world," a Commission spokesperson said in an attributable response to Xinhua.

EXACTLY this. There are really dummies or living in DELULU land Chinese who simply refuses to accept what their own 5 senses experience.

Whoever is in-charge of that building's security MUST BE DISCIPLINED accordingly.
Yeah some guy on Xiaohongshu told me China should keep the western architecture in the country as tourism so people could "experince" european charm while keeping money in the country. I swear people like to create an illusion of western charm in the country and it's embarrassing. I guess this is why people like that still exist.

As long as there is Chinese demand, someone Chinese will try to provide the supply. Better that than for the supplier to be non-Chinese.

ASML CEO: Better for China to be dependent than independent. Second-class citizens? (English caption available)

I can't wait to see the face of those morons when China's lithography machines start rolling out.
CEO of ASML like Jensen Huang of Nvidia are doing corporate speak to apaciguate the China stooges Hawks to keep the huge Chinese market open to their products. The irony is...they are kind of right.
Without US export controls and the blacklisting of companies like Huawei, the China semiconductor industry thread would had be A LOT shorter.
The idea of companies like SMIC and YMTC using domestic lithography equipment or some domestic processing equipment it would have been seen as crazy.
Nobody would have consider the idea of domestic GPUs for anything that is not niche.
The Big Fund would have been no so big. Most of the money would go more into third generation semiconductors, displays and power electronics.
SMIC would may or may not reached 5nm, personally I think yes, but given that they would have a lack of clients due big Chinese design houses like HiSilicon still fabbing their chips in TSMC and making a huge investment in EUV very risky.
Most China electronic companies like Huawei would be sourcing most of their components, like RF chips and network chips from US companies, paying premium instead of using domestic sources or making their owns.
Huawei would have NEVER enter into semiconductor manufacturing without US sanctions. Huawei entering semiconductor manufacturing was the best thing that ever happened to China semiconductor industry.

A term that I used to use is that China semiconductor industry was big but disjointed, growing but moving slow or nowhere, export controls and even the fear of export controls created some kind of market glue that make the different components of the industry to collaborate between each other and buy each other products. Ironically making the industry to move forward.
