I actually think they are buying all these ammo to then supply it to Ukraine. The acquisition budget seems designed entirely for ground warfare which is unlikely to happen in Germany. Its just an excuse to buy more stuff and then resupply to Ukraine.
Yeah that seems likely. One would hope at least some of the money went to enhance Bundeswehr readiness but that is probably too much to hope.

While Ukraine is going to eat up some of this spending, there's a bunch going to ships and subs which aren't going there. I think that a decent chunk is going to end up in the Bundeswehr proper. That said, the effectiveness of this money probably isn't going to be very high.

Well said, and Ukraine won't be the only ones to benefit. The German Defense Ministry will act as a trade representative for the German arms industry. This will allow other NATO allies to modernize their armies at lower costs. Germany will conclude framework contracts for large quantities, and other countries will join later. The Czech Republic, for example, is holding back its order for support tanks until Germany has reached corresponding framework agreements with the manufacturer. And last but not least, we are talking about Germany in its current state, which means there is a lot of talk and promises without any action.

That is the plain Leopard 1 chassis. It has 7 roadwheels per side.

My guess is unlike in Soviet tanks it does not have a transverse mounted engine. It is probably the engine compartment that makes the tank really long. Probably also to have more traction. More roadwheels means more ground contact area. The Leopard 1 has a higher power to weight ratio than most tanks.

It was basically designed as a high mobility sniper tank. Has really thin armor for the era. The idea was the opposing tank guns would penetrate the hull anyway, so armor only protected against heavy machine guns or autocannon.

The ASW frigate change will keep more money and work in Germany. That is ok.

The AEW&C seems like something Airbus Defense could work on. The GlobalEye seems, to me, like an underpowered platform for Central Europe. Maybe make a joint program to use the A321LR airframe with more powerful electronics systems also made by the Swedes.

The Eurofighter upgrades are long overdue. They should also add support for some kind of glide bombs, possibly the winged JDAM, and an air launched rocket similar to LORA. They should add a naval strike cruise missile.
The radar seems worse than the latest Leonardo radar. But whatever. It is better than keeping the utterly obsolete old radar.
They should look at finally funding EJ200 engine upgrades. Nothing for that here. But this should be done European wide.

If anything I think they aren't upgrading enough aircraft. It does not say the numbers but I doubt this is for more than 40 aircraft. That €2 billion. Clearly not enough.
