After failing to finish the Pershing II and about decade of telling the world there is no way the DF-21D and DF-26 could hit moving targets until China demonstrated exactly DF-21D and DF-26 hitting a moving target at the same time and launched from two places in China separated by 100s of kilometers, the US is now trying to make a DF-21D equivalent in ARRW.

They aren't approaching India, in many ways they are already like India.

Chengdu, Shenyang, etc: *Continue flight testing and evaluation of their 6th-gen platforms without doing any fanfare*

Lockheed Martin: "Something big is coming, be prepared!" *Shows the CGI + animated video of a nerfed version of UADF-A/B*

Boeing: "Here's our F-47 CGI, now available in animated format!"

The equivalent of a YF-22/23 was probably flown. There was a lot of difference between the YF-22 & the final F-22.
They said that they flew a technology demonstrator. That's more an X-plane rather than a YF- one. They probably didn't even have a design finalized before the project was given to Boeing. Maybe this means that they've passed that hurdle and are making good progress. Setting the timeline at three years for a first flight seems very optimistic though, and it'd be doing a lot better than most American military programs.

Another thing to note is that, if they're able to meet this deadline, it'll still put the F-47 four years behind the pace of the J-36 and J-50.

Would it not be even more behind?

Like, if their flight in 2028 is more like an YF plane?
While the J36 and 50 are past the 'equivalent' YF plane stage (so actual prototypes of the final product).

Or might they skip YF plane stage, and just have actual prototype of F47 by 2028?

Boeing artists made a CGI of 6th gen with canards & tails.

After finding J-36 has none of this, and everyone gets angry about your CGI, artists came to a great & simple solution:
Put heavy smokes around canards & tails, so that no one can see them while adding the sense of mystery.

What a genius!
