Are we sure it is painted over and th covered with a lid like we’ve seen with J-20 at Zhuhai?

IMO J-20's IRST lids covers the windows only hence you could still tell the difference between the lid and frame but the J-35A in the picture has a very uniform looking EOTS it could be conveniently everything just seems to be painted the exact same color but if not then it's a placeholder.

Edit: Actually I'm not sure, if could potentially be a serial production aircraft judging by the fact that the DSI bump is painted in dielectric material like the J-20 same with other leading edges and also tape on the vertical stabilizer. These are not present on the prototypes flown at Zhuhai 24'

Even if the EOTS is missing doesn’t necessarily mean that the plane is not in service. There are several Rafales in service with French Air Force that have styrofoam placeholders where the IRST is supposed to be. We wouldn’t know about it till one of them got damaged during an accident.

Pakistan to start inducting FC-31 fighters

By Farhan Bokhari | 04 June 2025

China is set to start supplying the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) with its Shenyang FC-31 ‘Gyrfalcon' multirole stealth fighter aircraft, a senior Pakistani government official has told Janes.

The FC-31 aircraft “will begin arriving within months”, the official said recently, while also confirming that PAF pilots are in China undergoing training to fly the aircraft. The official did not disclose any terms of the deal, including the date it was signed.

And apparently it'll come with the PL-17!

Round 1: Mig-21 Bison - AIM-120C
Round 2: Rafale - PL-15
Round 3: NETRA - PL-17??

In today's podcast, Yankee confirmed the following points:

1. The first unit to receive the J-35A will operate a mixed fleet of J-20 and J-35A.This unit has more of a research and development role than a combat one, tasked with training other units, testing new software, and pioneering new tactics.

2. The J-35A also serves as an aggressor aircraft, simulating the large numbers of F-35 in China's vicinity during BVR and close-range air combat training.

3. The J-35A's internal fuel capacity exceeds 8 tons, giving it a range no weaker than that of older Flanker variants
