Oh wow. I didn’t realize how money grabbing Nintendo and Switch 2 is on top of the game/console price. However, the Nintendo fans will buy it up like cotton candy.
$10 for the Switch Tutorial
$20 Annual Subscription to unlock a button on Switch.
The $10 Welcome Tour thing is so obviously self-defeating. Reading between the lines, this seems to be a Nintendo of Japan vs. Nintendo of America thing, where the former is unable to grasp the intangible value of consumer good will to the long-term benefit of the platform and brand. This time, there's no Reggie Fils-Aimé to push for bundling it for Wii Sports for the Wii.
The Game Chat thing is a little more defensible, in that the Nintendo Switch Online service is already required for online multiplayer. Game Chat is just a value add to that existing proposition, one that happens to have a dedicated controller button. I've only briefly subscribed to NSO in the past, but I expect I'll be doing so for at least a little while for Mario Kart: World, which looks fantastic.
