Tariff is a primitive tool, China only retaliate with tariff because that's the language Americans understand, but it's ultimately symbolic as Beijing can just directly order SOEs to stop buying, simliarly import tariffs are also symbolic when China only imports commodities and importers of commodities are basically all SOEs.

At end of the day if China's goal is eliminate them as a threat, then Trump is already doing everything Beijing could hope for, i.e. forced coupling of smaller nations into China's supply chain, rapid tariff hikes impossible to prepare for and kill off US business, create day to day uncertainty to prevent any company from investing in neither US nor non-China countries, not to mention antagonize the entire world so China can step in to save the day.

And let's not forget China has plenty of coercion power that hasn't been used, at least not publicly, if a country fears the stick, then China also has a bigger one.

I think China have the capabilities and better, the experience, to deal with the tariffs, even high ones because tariffs have diminished returns. The issue is that the US just represent 15% of China exports so an economic contagion to countries that do not have the arsenal to counter US tariffs, in ASEAN, Latin America, Africa and others could do more damage than the US tariffs themselves.​

Recently the indian FM Jaishankar has said that China "has always been favoured by the west" thus explaining Chinese power and success not hard-work,intelligent planning,nor discipline etc.Now this Goyal idiot-totally hopeless nation /people india.Mods please have some forbearance for me-but such antiChinese crap really triggers me. :)

BTW, China has given zero tariff treatment to all Less Developped Countries with diplomatic relationship since December 1st, 2024. You can see the priority of China. China is creating an order in which countries will be treated preferably according to their closeness to China. One don't get appreciation if one beg or bribe or gives undeserved reward, that only makes one looks cheap.

Can't really call EU a backstab, they are pretty open about hating China, more than Japan even. Japan at the national government level talks nice, it just pumps Japanese subject's heads full of imperial fascist propaganda. EU both pumps propaganda and openly acts it out. I honestly think Japan is more likely to fold than EU when pressed to the corner.

Hmm. It seems that Shanghai is doing well despite low GDP per Capita lower than Mississippi . Could this mean GDP Per Capita isn't an effective metric as its just a number on screen (nominal even goes up and down like the stock market for Turkey)? Or the US has overinflated its scores?

This is something I noticed. Despite westoids claiming to be free thinkers, they always assume their system and their metrics are absolute. That if something is contradictory its not them who is wrong but others. How is this any different from the Church back in the day screeching when people started realizing what they told was BS? Yeah man, I'm totally sure Ireland with its Leprechaun economics is the third richest place in the world.

Just remember not too long ago they also said Chinese could never study well, communism would never work or that liberal democracy is the end of time system.

Germanic Winology in a nutshell. There is no point arguing with them, because they see all Chinese as Dalits and work from there. Their COVID response is a great example of this.
