Totally true. The core component of Western Europe's intent in its relationship with China is blood-sucking and backstabbing. This relationship isn't worth a dime. I wouldn't even call it a relationship. To counterweigh "relations" with an enemy state against relations with your current most important ally (historical concerns aside, Russia is de facto China's most important partner now) is an insult and warning to those who would stand beside you while putting on a pedistal those who wish ill upon you.
The main objetive of China in Europe should be to disintegrate the EU, and take southern and eastern europe out of the western europe control. So Spain, Portugal, Greece and to some level Italy place in the EU was basically to be a market for the northen products while offering tourism for them.
This countries can fill exactly the same role but being the market of chinese products and a destination of chinese tourist.
For China should be easy to create fractures there exploiting the differences between Catholics and protestants, the history, the supremacist atitutes of western Europe and northern europe with names like "PIGS", or saying that Europe ends in the Pyrenees (pretending that Spain and Portugal does not belong there) and so on
Those countries are not culturally part of the carolingian world (that is the base of the EU), they were different from the beginning, and during most of history have been enemies.
You just need to put some money in political movements in the south that articulate a cultural dislike of french, British and Germans there.
