I completely agree with this. Both China and Russia are friends because of convenience and I've mentioned this here before. At the end of the day Russians are Europeans and everything being equal, they'll pick Europe over China.

Directly from BBC, The Financial Times, NYT... Russians love western europeans and hate chinese. They dont care of Napoleon, Hitler, now NATO, the blatant rusophobia, the pillaging in the 90s etc.

It is amazing how people believe this shit without even asking one russian about it.

Really, you dont need to do a lot of effort to check the opinions about Western Europe in Russian culture and russian current politics. E.g. anyone reading Dostoevski will see how crazy much he hated Western Europe. Same with 90% of russian philosophers and writers. What do think Glazyev or Western Europe? What do think Dugin?

Russians will pick China over Western Europe 10000 times. This is so obvious that is blatant. Only reason for them to have relation with Western Europe was that western europe was rich. Now that is declining they dont give a fuck.

The thing with Iran is that they are much less ethnically homogeneous than Russia and China. That's why they have so many inner or emigrant "traitors" and separatists.

Sharing a common religion (Shia Islam) and pushing for the official and ubiquitous use of the Persian language can help improve national unity, but only to a certain extent.

That's why they have so many Western "democracy" fanboys. As half of the country is from minority ethnic groups it is basically logical (they view it as some cushion for their minority rights). So, you could say that it also makes them pro-Western and anti-China by extension too.

However, this is also why you have to have a strong hand always leading there or you will have a disintegration/friction over time, so this kind of regime is the only option.

You should take into consideration that "alliancefordemocracias" it is not precisely a neutral poll organization. It is a western outlet with clear intents and objetives in the polls they publish.

They can greatly manipulate the results based in whom they ask, and how they do their questions.

I doubt that the millions Iranians going to the streets to praise for Raise have a bad view of China. I mean, Iran suffered tremendously in the years of the Sha, only a super small urban 'intelligentsia" was prosperous them. Those who are nowadays the "diaspora". Majority of the country is for sure positive to China.

From cheering about Iran president dying to lobbying to have US weapons to strike mainland Russia. This is the guy leading the US foreign diplomatic relations and his incompetence is staggering.

Must be one of the most hated foreign ministers in the world today and one that most would much prefer to be gone in the coming future and one I reckon most nations would pop the cork once he is gone from office. What a stupid son of a nice lady, how he managed to get this position is truly beyond me

What started this chain of responses was news of the British foreign secretary claiming that China is either providing lethal aid or will be providing is soon to Russia. I said that I hope Xi got major concessions from Putin if what the British government says is true because it's in China's best interest for this war to go on indefinitely as it weakens the West (I assume trillions will be spent providing aid to Ukraine before this war eventually ends) and Russia.

I know it seems like I'm speaking on emotion bringing up lands stolen from Russia but not providing lethal aid to Russia is pragmatism. This war is pretty much a stalemate at this point and there's absolutely no reason for China to tip the scale in Russia's favor. Russia is being a perfect partner as it is right now being a pariah and China shouldn't willingly change that status by ending the war sooner at the expense of relations with Europe.

What started this chain is your implication of 2 things:

1) In order to help Russia with lethal aid, Russia needs to give up something big to China.

And what if it can't? What if it won't? What if Russia decides that since China's being such a cheap oppertunistic prick as they bleed and struggle to fight against their common enemies, that they might as well hunker down, end the conflict with peace talks right at the borders they've achieved and let the US and EU focus on China instead? With peace talks, they can resume gas sales and everything to Europe, reigniting its economy and innovative competitiveness.

If I were holding off a hostile force alone at my expense, buying time for my ally to develop himself to a higher level so that he can achieve the final victory, essentially actively fighting to entrust my future to a world where he would reign supreme, I would be deeply offended if he refused to help me. Ideas like yours turn friend to foe; it is mistakes like this that led the West, mostly the US, to trade a Russia that wanted to join NATO for one that fights against it for the sake of a combined future with China.

2) Chinese relations with Western Europe are worth anything at all to consider against our relation with Russia.

The core component of Western Europe's intent in its relationship with China is blood-sucking and backstabbing. This relationship isn't worth a dime. I wouldn't even call it a relationship. To counterweigh "relations" with an enemy state against relations with your current most important ally (historical concerns aside, Russia is de facto China's most important partner now) is an insult and warning to those who would stand beside you while putting on a pedistal those who wish ill upon you.

And another way to try to manage the risk of Russian rapprochement with the West is to, besides state-to-state relations, try to build more positive people-to-people relations and make soft power inroads into Russia. As some have stated, many individual Russians still feel closer cultural ties to Europe and some may view Chinese with suspicion. Russians still consume large amounts of Western media and pop culture. You want Russians to be reminded of Napoleon, the Crimean War, WW1, and WW2, not Genghis Khan.

Although the "tartar mongol legends" are a thing in the Russian culture, they are very secondary after the french and german invasions as well as the animosity towards the anglosaxon.

To be honest, anyone who think that Russian in general prefer Western Europeans does not understand Russian culture and politics.

There are some that really hate Asians and love western europeans. The liberal and nazi minority that also support Ukraine and basically run out of Russia. But the ones that say that the other russians are spoiled half asians. But there are really small % of the country, think in less than 1%.

If you dont want to enter in cultural investigations you can catch the opinion of random russians in places of the runet like dzen, or random telegram chanels and you will see that they are very positive of chinese and north koreans.

But if you have time you just need to read russian writters (both imperial times and soviet times) to see that they in general dont like western europe

when Russia spend huge amount on Sochi it barely had 400K population and no commercial port or natural resources and cut off by mountains. Now they are developing Arctic /Pacific and you think to reach up North and East they will not made any cities in the middle? when the likely hood of resources extraction get higher and above all it has Arab interest. The problem is you are challenging the combine wisdom of Gulf Royals and Russia regarding North Pole. look at this historic picture.

Sochi is the most livable place of the full Russia, with amazing weather, beaches, and very close impressive big mountains.

You got there everything, from the summer to the winter tourism.

Any investment there in infrastructure is going to give you a x10 ROI.

You cannot compare it with building a city in the middle of an unlivable dessert. Imagine Russians would have invested the money they invested in Sochi in Yakuskt with its crazy freezing temperatures

Yes, exactly. These people are not neutral and it's well known that the Iranian diaspora is full of people who want to have a western aligned government. If they had anyone from the diaspora involved in the survey, the results are predictable. Americans also have a special hatred for the Iranian government, probably because they are so bitter that a country would have rejected them. When the survey results make so little sense, then you have to question the methodology. If western surveys of Iran were reliable, then it's impossible to explain how the government hasn't fallen
