Judging by the behaviour of the frat boys at Columbia vis-a-vis the protests, i believe it's more than likely that the entirety of the US ruling class is no longer WASP, but more like Jewish White American.

The emergence of Evangelicals permanently entwined the WASP with Zionism. Zionism is now an integral part of WASP. But this is not an entirely new development. British WASP in the middle-ages England and Scotland were as vehement of Zionism as the run of mill Murican Evangelical today.

British royals (and formerly Scottish) were deeply inspired by Zionism and Jewish rituals. For example, the coronation chair of the British royal family is a replica (and some say the original) of the biblical King David's throne. The stone under the throne, known as the Stone of Scones, is the original from King David's throne. The English captured it from the Scottish whom had it imported from middleast sometime during the Roman Era when the 2nd Temple (of Solomon, son of David) was destroyed.

What's the appeal? and what's their rationale for essentially following this ritual?

'Return of the Jews to Israel will usher in the 2nd coming of Christ, leading to the rapture' where Christians are beemed up to heaven while all else (including the Jews) are killed.

It's largely a Protestant interpretation of the bible, afaik not found among Catholics and Orthodox.

Modern British historians reject this concept because the direct Ashkenazi-British connection is somewhat obscure. So, there is affinity between them based on ethnic grounds.

What I do find shameful and a bit stupid even is that they keep on repeating the same lines about the Tiananmen Square when most of the global south knows that it is the US operation and have long past caring about this at all. Maybe these obviously paid operatives should’ve been escorted from the place given that the aims of this trash is clear to all and ultimately presents no value to anyone. A lot of those cultist are going to be very disappointed when they don’t get raptured like they really wanted to. By trying to force the prophecy to take place at a time of their choosing instead of God’s choosing and basically supporting the evils done in Gaza , they have ultimately condemned themselves to the same fate as all those that tries to play God and that place is not a good place to put it mildly. Also, a lot of these people are not open to reason (in fact they are quite insane to be honest) which goes completely against the teaching of the bible. Oh yeah, on the one hand I would love for Nathan Law to be involved and result in boomerang again.
