Don't know where to post this, but this American Enterprise Institute think tank is claiming that the Chinese MIC budget is larger than China claims. I think this is an attempt to discredit China and to get allies to militarize even further and provide an excuse to increase the budget of the failing US MIC.View attachment 128937
I don't know if the budget is larger in numbers but it's probably able to operate more than the US, i.e. a destroyer in China may be $1b while in USA it is upwards of $4b.

Many countries have wierd disparities like this, indicating possibly inefficiencies in resource allocation, corruption or inflation. Like the recent Canadian acquisition of frigates that cost $4-5b per unit, while everywhere else in the world they'll cost $0.5b. India vs Pakistan is another good example. India's defence budget of $74b is 10× larger than Pakistan's $7b, but Indian military is not 10× larger nor have 10× more equipment nor personnel; rather it's closer to 2× larger.

The question am going to pose to you is are the public in many Western countries going to sacrifice their standards of living for a bigger defense spending? Guns for butter because they can't have it both.
Not only do the leaders in the West not give a damn about such issues, but there simply is no mechanism in place to hold them accountable. They will overtax their people and move on with their lives like nothing happened.

State owned for purpose vs publicly traded/privately owned for profit.

That Canadian Surface Combatant program has so far cost over 80bn and almost the entire program is non indigenous. The documents are redacted for the most part, and not a single ship has been produced so far. It will likely cost much more than that by the time these ships have been produced. That program is a huge scam.

Great example, but still better than something like the Russian military vs the Bundeswehr.

That's the goal but how and where are those countries going to get their money to fund an increase military spending when their economies are going through a very shaky situation? Inflation resulting in housing crisis, rising food prices, food and other basic but most important necessities are more expensive. Not to mention health care costs are increasing while the care provided in countries with socialized health care are becoming a burden.

The question am going to pose to you is are the public in many Western countries going to sacrifice their standards of living for a bigger defense spending? Guns for butter because they can't have it both.

Yet, they are going to re-industrialize and "bring manufacturing back" at these kinds of times in their dreams.

(And the expensive USD is just one of the reasons why it is impossible now. High labor costs, lack of raw materials and industrial ecosystems, poor infrastructure and education, etc, are some of the other ones, but that is beside the point of this...)

So, as they are incapable of being competitive in manufacturing against China, we know by using common sense,

Every stupid tariff, like the ones Trump suggests, means their citizens are just taxed and pay more, more inflation,

As there are no alternatives to Chinese advanced and cost-efficient goods - so they would still need to buy those.

Or it will be rerouted to some other country, to avoid tariffs, but they also take a cut, and raise the price.

Or China now simply raises the price of raw materials, components, and industrial machinery,

Required for you to assemble your own stuff after you ban theirs. (Yes, most you can do without them is bare assembly now).

So stupid politicians bid to score some political points, and appear "strong" would only backfire once again.

That means even higher interest rates to combat it, and even fewer chances to be competitive against China.

I don't get it how so many smart people still hold some hope for US manufacturing, and the US in general.

This is regarding the nationwide, military-style attack and beatdown of those students.

The US has very little hard power left, one of the most impoverished countries on Earth, Chad, Niger, Yemen, Syria, and Iraq slap them in the face hard on daily and don't fear them at all, basically throwing their bases out of their countries without any fear,

Or straight up defeat them militarily and force them to sue for peace (Like Houthis).

But, even their global media-led soft power domination has ended now thanks to Israel.

Meanwhile, Russia showed to the whole world how overhyped and unfit for real military application the Western equipment generally is,

It is designed as an expensive with only profit in mind, meaning making it as expensive, and inefficient as possible, one that would require constant maintenance to work.

"Shiny" as much as possible, but, not that much practical, maybe best for Hollywood movies and YouTube videos.

That's what happens when private sector oligarchs run you and your military and weapon production instead of the state as in China & Russia.

That was on top of their weak production surge capability and military-industrial capability overall that Russia revealed to the whole world.

Interesting. The same natively born Indian guy who killed Yahoo search is responsible for killing Google search. I also could feel there was a rot in big tech but now it's really coming out.

The funny thing is he kicked out another guy who was supposedly Indian (born in Africa) that actually was key to the search. So I guess even if you're Indian, if you are not one of "them" then you're still getting screwed.

I think the world possibly is unnecessary.

Outside of those factors, another issue that makes it hard to directly compare military spending is how R&D costs is accounted for. In the US, most R&D is done by suppliers and the costs are carried over to the procurement cost, and nearly all military related R&D expenditure is covered under US defense spending.

For CBP to do this, it is a big legal step forward in Chinese persecution. Chinese citizenship can now be used as an instant cause for interrogation.

Immigration officers have interrogated more than 30 TikTok employees who traveled to the US. Workers who have been singled out are Chinese nationals.
TikTok employees have been asked whether they are members of the Chinese Communist Party and their schooling and political connections in China.

Identifying who to kidnap later? Sounds like they want to seize the algorithm by force.
People who have been interrogated work in machine learning or data engineering. CBP agents have asked them about their individual involvement with

Commenter:
If there is a solid reasoning behind that (of which there isn't), it should be a question on the visa application "are you a member of any communist party" that requires any foreigner to truthfully answer, instead of specifically questioning Chinese nationals at CBP.
