I played CK II, and this was the bane of succession. You spend decades making a perfect heir, then the heir dies before you do, and the power transfers to the idiot whom you've completely neglected, who just happens to be next in line. C'est la vie...Well that is unexpected, then again making someone that old to become a king means that his time to enjoy that power is probably not going to be long, health being one reason, state of the nation being the other
As the saying goes, "after the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box". Charles is no spring chicken. What surprises me is that it gets revealed now. I'd expect them to keep it under wraps and come out somewhere down the line with a "King defeats cancer after fierce battle". The fact that it gets revealed so relatively close to the coronation makes me think it's been going on a while and might be a big deal.Cancer is a lot more treatable than it used to be. So there is a good chance he will survive. Depends on the cancer really.
These people have the best treatment there is. His family is filthy rich.
I'm not in the UK, but looking from the outside, do the brits even have the public attention to spare on this? Houthis in Yemen, Russians in the Ukraine, their military undermanned, fleet falling apart, the world crumbling around them, and they'd still have to spend time and money on this... It's one thing when you're talking coronation, that has at least some positive implications, same with QE II's passing, she had her time and everyone was probably kind of prepared. But I'd think that the brits would have expected the new king to... I don't know... Last them at least for a little while? When he dies, they're going to waste months on some funeral even though people barely knew him. Even brits know this stuff is disruptive and time wasting.
