The owner of the Fukushima nuclear plant, destroyed by an earthquake and tsunami more than seven years ago, said water treated at the site still contains radioactive materials that for years it has insisted had been removed.

The admission by Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) could ruin its chances of releasing the water into the ocean

Documents on the government committee’s website show that of 890,000 tonnes of water held at Fukushima, 750,000 tonnes, or 84 percent, contain higher concentrations of radioactive materials than legal limits allow.

In 65,000 tonnes of treated water, the levels of radioactive materials are more than 100 times government safety levels.

Radioactive readings of one of those isotopes, strontium-90, considered dangerous to human health, were detected at 600,000 becquerels per liter in some tanks, 20,000 times the legal limit.

Tepco has for years insisted that its purification processes remove strontium and 61 other radioactive elements from the contaminated water but leaves tritium, a mildly radioactive element that is difficult to separate from water.

“We will filter the water in the tanks one more time to bring the levels to below regulatory limits before release into the ocean if a decision is made to do so,” the Tepco spokesman said.

Somehow, this time around we should just believe that TEPCO is not lying anymore like all the previous occasions that they were caught lying and just trust them without any independent testing or verification.

Plague-infected fleas, bred in the laboratories of Unit 731 and Unit 1644, were spread by low-flying airplanes over Chinese cities, including coastal Ningbo and Changde, Hunan Province, in 1940 and 1941. An expedition to Nanjing involved spreading typhoid and paratyphoid germs into the wells, marshes, and houses of the city, as well as infusing them in snacks distributed to locals. These bombs enabled Japanese soldiers to launch biological attacks, infecting agriculture, reservoirs, wells, as well as other areas, with anthrax- and plague-carrier fleas, typhoid, cholera, or other deadly pathogens. During biological bomb experiments, researchers dressed in protective suits would examine the dying victims. Infected food supplies and clothing were dropped by airplane into areas of China not occupied by Japanese forces. In addition, poisoned food and candy were given to unsuspecting victims. Plague fleas, infected clothing, and infected supplies encased in bombs were dropped on various targets. The resulting cholera, anthrax, and plague were estimated to have killed at least 400,000 Chinese civilians. Tularemia was also tested on Chinese civilians.

One question that I have. What is preventing China from also producing Cheap Autonomous "replicators"? What exactly is the magic sauce that the US has that they can produce thousands of cheap autonomous weapons but China cannot.

Is this supposed AI edge? Not in the military realm. Is this semiconductors gap? If its so cheap to produce, it should have fairly cheap and low tech chip inside it and China should also be able to make it with their "low" tech.

There's no magic sauce IMHO, as a US army general has said, US military procurement is routinely up to 26 times more expensive than PLA can do. There's nothing the US could do in this regard in the foreseeable future. Granted, that's for peace time procurement, in wartime I think the US would have much larger scope to trim the fat.

Gabon military officers claim power, say election lacked credibility​

Television announcement came shortly after state election body announced incumbent Ali Bongo had won a third term as president.

A group of senior military officers have appeared on television in Gabon claiming they have taken power because elections held over the weekend were not credible.

The officers said in the Wednesday broadcast they had cancelled the elections, dissolved all state institutions and closed the country’s borders.

They said they represented all security and defence forces of Gabon.

The announcement came shortly after the state election body said President Ali Bongo had won a third term in office in Saturday’s disputed elections.
