A joint patrol of American soldiers from Attack Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment and Afghan Army troops had been on a recon mission when they were fired from multiple directions. The Taliban is strong throughout Kandahar province and U.S. and Canadian forces have announced a major upcoming offensive against them around Kandahar city.

    U.S. Army Soldiers with 2nd Platoon, Company D, 2nd Battalion, 12th infantry Regiment, Task Force Lethal Warrior, return fire after their patrol is attacked by Anti-Afghan Forces at Tantil Village in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province March 13. Afghan National Security Forces and International Security Assistance Forces visited the community and its elders because of a high number of recent AAF attacks in the area. No ANSF or ISAF members were wounded during the small arms attack.

In 2009, KC-10s from the 380th AEW and the 908th EARS flew 4,760 combat sorties offl-loading 422,222,300 pounds of fuel to 31,434 aircraft. In the same year, the KC-10s and their crews accumulated 40,011 hours of flight time.

    ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska (Mar. 29, 2010) - A F-15 Eagle peels off of a four-jet formation as it prepares to land at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. Elmendorf’s 19th Fighter Squadron will soon be decommissioned with the first F-15s leaving in April 2010 and the final few scheduled to leave in September 2010. Some of the jets returned from more than a month-long temporary duty assignment. Four jets from the 19th Fighter Squadron participated in Thailand’s exercise Cope Tiger. After departing Thailand, they flew to Kadena Air Base where they rested for two days and flew out to meet up with four other Elmendorf F-15s, that participated in Cope Thaw in Hawaii.




    INDIAN OCEAN (March 31, 2010) Members of the U.S. Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment and Combined Task Force 151's visit board search and seizure team, on board the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Farragut (DDG 99) board a suspicious dhow. USS Farragut is part of Combined Task Force 151, a multinational task force established to conduct anti-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden.

    Maj. Jason Egan, Marine Attack Squadron 311 pilot, launches off the deck of the USS Peleliu in an AV-8B Harrier at night during the squadron’s final predeployment exercise April 16, 2010. Six Harriers and approximately 80 squadron Marines left Yuma April 15 to participate in their third and final predeployment training evolution off the coast of California. The exercise, which began April 16 and is scheduled to end April 27, included the entire 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The squadron is slated to deploy to the Pacific and Indian Oceans with the 15th MEU in May. The remainder of the squadron deployed to Japan aboard the USS Essex with the 31st MEU in January.
