length of hangar section is some 3,7 structure foundation pillar distances. As per GE image, that is around 21-22 meters.

interestingly, folded height of sh60 is somehow almost 1,2 meters less than operational height. also, folded length is 12,5 meters.

I don't know where they got their figures, but harpoon game database says super frelon is 4,9 meter high when folded (and 6,7 meter high when not folded) and more importantly 17 meter long with folded tail. While i don't get how does one fold height, it's not as important when we talk about length only.

052d has a more or less known beam at the hangar section. the hangar door is some 4,6 meters wide and the outer width of the top of the hangar is 5,8 meters. That leaves some 11 meters for two rhibs on the side plus probably hallways around them and what not.

If 055 is wider than 052d, then one could fit both two rhibs and two helicopters. Depending how wide 055 really is at the hangar section. If it's indeed 22-23 meters wide, then it should be no problem. if it's close to 20 meters then it still might be possible, but possibly only in a staggered formation, with rhib storages a bit aft od the widest hangar sections.

Also, judging the height of the newly added section on top of hangar mock up using the height of the visible door - it would seem the overall height of hangar section doesn't really go much over 4,5 meters. Still makes it uncomfortably low even for z20 class of helicopter, meaning we still might see helipad lower than the rest of the main deck.

It would seem that PLAN prefers to have the rhibs as close to helo hangar as possible in their new designs, even when that may've costed em twin helo hangars. So i'd expect the same to continue on 055 as well.

edit: i get now how the folded height is less. total height is obviously from the tip of the rotating rear rotor which is visibly higher up on both sh60 and z8. when one folds the tail, overall height does drop by quite a bit.

Very good design and looking good

I would call the specifications for the CG 10,000 tons plus twin hanger 96 cell plus universal VLS and the ability for major upgrades in the future

1. That depressed area will trap sea water, which means high maintenance.
2. In case of actual battle, debris and shell casings can be trapped in there; gun will get stuck.
There is a flat deck all along that area as part of the main deck. It has ample drain ports so sea water will not collect there, and it will not cause the gun to jam.

I believe he is simply pointing out that the base of the gun itself is lower than the other deck shown further aft, behind the VLS cells.

Skywatcher's blog made another post on 055, a decent read

A few corrections though:
-The radar on 055 is expected to be the 346A, not 346. Former is the one on 052D, latter is the older version on 052C
-346A is definitely not twice as large as SPY-1 (assuming D variant is meant). I think 346A is about 14 feet by 14 feet, SPY-1 is about 12 feet. Of course SPY-1 is a hexagon and 346A is a square so the latter likely has more effective TR arrays (interestingly as big as the AMDR-S for flight iii burke)
-VLS count at this stage is expected to be up to twice as great as 052D, not at least as great
-Starboard is right, not left (both port and starboard are said to be "left" in the write up)

But otherwise an informative update with good information on other similar systems by other nations to give perspective.

Thanks, will correct the starboard typo.:p

I put in 346 (should have specific about with SPY-1 variant) because it could have differences from the Type 346A, so I figured that Type 346 was vague enough (yes, I know its the designation for the Type 052C's radar), maybe Type 346x would have been a better editorial choice.

Could it be that this one is also realted to the Liaoning and its current refit at Dalian ??

Deino

Probably not. Would be very extensive and liaoning's current sensor suite should be more than enough for its intended missions.

yeahhh, can't wait until the first one in the water .... I'd bet it will be in mid 2015, possibly even in March 2015

I tend to believe it would be 128 cell universal VLS and 11K tons

In absence of any reliable indicators of hinging a thing's final length, height (or even beam), I'm going to go with pop3s specs of 12,000 tons standard displacement.
