Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

I think A Mace posted one of these pics a few months back. here's others from the same set

I'd really like to know where this model was displayed, lots of similarities but not quite identical to virginia.

is the old man in the first picture an PLAN admiral?

Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

It's conceivable that the first picture was taken at the same place as the other two, possibly at the "rear" of the submarine. The first picture was posted with the other two in the same set by =GT on CDF, so I'm taking it for granted they are pictures of the same model.

I have no idea who the people are but if previous photos like this are anything to go by they're people high up in either PLA or CCP.

I don't think anyone properly analyzed these photos a few months back when a mace posted them so i'll do so now. Clearly we can see similarities between this sub and virginia/seawolf, with the mast/hull size/placement ratio and the smooth curvature from modern top of the line subs. The tube like hull is also more akin to seawolf/virginia than say the more angled nature of astute, but we can clearly see it's different to the US subs because of the way the fins are arranged and the sail on this one is larger.

Compare to virginia model:

Also there's the hull mounted diving planes, and we can see what seems to be representations of three side mounted sonar arrays which should be expected, given 093 has a similar configuration.
We can't see if there's provision for TAS, the number of torpedo tubes or if there's VLS but that's to be expected. the propeller looks badly manufactured but that's probably the model maker's fault. If this thing is real, then the actual 095 coudl still very well have pumpjet as illustrations of astute for years showed it without a pumpjet when it actually did.

So here's to hoping this thing is a model of the real 095, and evidence will emerge of where these photos were taken and the first pic is of the same model as the latter two. phew

On a different note, does anyone know what the weird opening on the 094's vertical fin is?

093, 092 and 091 all lack this feature

the 3 side mounted sonar arrays are too visible on the "095" model. they should hide them more.

Clearly it's a model, and aside from putting in labels making the protrusions slightly more visible would've been the only other way.

Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

And it's not like the PLA to overestimate its capabilities so imo the 2700 km's credibility supersedes the 1500 km number from US military "intelligence"/DoD estimates... they've not exactly been the best in recent years, from getting YJ-62's range wrong in ONI reports to still using old sub noise charts from the late nineties.

China Daily error.

DF-21D ASBM Deployed, but China Daily Probably Incorrect in Claiming “2,700km Range”; Gen. Chen Bingde Never Said That

I think I'll reserve judgement on whether that was journalistic error for the moment.

Just posted by xinhui on CDF...

Not sure if this is a new unit or an old picture of the first unit only now released... If it is indeed a new boat then the idea this is a test sub looks unlikely. but at the same time we can clearly see the bulge extending beneath the sail, like the old golf SSBs did... I'm as confused as the next guy.

You can also get a sense how big this SSK is too... it looks as big as a UK or French SSN o_O

just not as long, remove the sail extension, and it is roughly the size of (and looks the same config) as the Soryu, so north of 2500 tons or close to 3000 tons, SSNs are usually double that, 6000 or 7000 tons

looking at the bulge and sail (with other pics on CDF with personnels on board) also pretty ample room for DF-21, say 2x4?
when they release a pic of it with periscope/antennas up, we'll know whats in the sail
