Looking at the darned trousers of the second guy from the left, I wonder how big supplies of working uniforms are taken on a modern US aircraft carrier, I mean for example if there were two thousand members of flight deck personnel, how many working uniforms would be available to them, like ten thousand for example?? (I know it's complicated because of different colors worn

etc., but I suppose they can get a new working uniform immediately when it's needed and don't have to go to a stitcher :)

Yeah , but apparently cannot detect if the water is contaminated ... :( (Of course they can , but somebody decided not to do anything about it ) :

They and 49 other U.S. Navy members who served aboard the Reagan and sister ship the USS Essex now trace illnesses including thyroid and testicular cancers, leukemia and brain tumors to the time spent aboard the massive ship, whose desalination system pulled in seawater that was used for drinking, cooking and bathing.

Well , it wasn't like that in good old times ;) No steel toes , but men made of steel .
On a high tempo US aircraft carrier deck...they still are.

The US Navy has transferred the traditions and mettle on to the new carriers, while adding the safety equipment.

That safety equipment keeps good, trained, men of steel alive and functioning at times now when they may have been lost before.

Oh man...some very serious negligence and neglect had to be going on there.

I can almost guarantee that if the US knew about the damaged reactor, then they would have been monitoring the air and water. If somehow they did not, or that word did not get passed to the Ronald Reagan and others, then some very serious disciplinary action needs to take place.

I know that aboard a Nimitz class shipmates that work in the reactor department wear radiation monitors day and night. I'll try to find pictures of sailors wearing monitors during the time in question.

I have to wonder if these unfortunate sailors that are affected went ashore in Japan to assist with the relief efforts.? I did not read the whole article.

Nothing new here.. CVNs & other ships have had Starbucks for several years now.

Secondly this is not the first Starbucks on an USN ship. The first was aboard the USS Harry S Truman in 2010. Don't know if it's still open.

Another Starbucks was open on the IKE in 2012.

A few did go ashore early on and were exposed. Soon there after the RR and other vessels departed the dangerous areas and we were told that was the extent of it.

Now we have 49-51 sailors ON THE SHIPS who have filed suite against the Japanese power company because they say they were exposed while on deck. Reports of Radioactive Snow, radioactive sea water being taken up by the desalination equipment, etc. And the reports of the incidents of thyroid cancer, testicular cancer, and other cancers and radiation impact are simply too compelling to believe it happened any other way...particularly specifically to that group.

No...if indeed the Ronald Reagan was exposed in this manner, after the earthquake and after we knew very early on about the damage to the nuclear power plant, then there was some serious negligence in checking levels around and in the ship. IMHO, if this is true, then someone needs to be held to account for that...and not just the power company. We have procedures for monitoring these things in case of any event, from civil disaster to nuclear war. If they were not followed...someone screwed up big time.

The story centers around Radioactive Snow. this reminds me of "Black Rain" as it was called after the detonations in Japan or perhaps more closer in the form of "Bikini snow" during the Bikini Atoll tests that is the fallout of a nuclear detonation taking the form of radioactive dust.

I love your new by-line, you are almost as humble as the Air Force Brat, that old Mac Davis song comes to mind when I read this bro, and when it comes to USN matters, you got da corner on da market!
